36TH AND 37TH HAMBURG GRANTS FOR VISUAL ART AT THE FALCKENBERG COLLECTION

Every year, the Hamburg Department of Culture and Media awards ten grants for visual artists as part of its long-term funding program. The Hamburg Grants for Visual Art are awarded annually to artists whose primary residence is in Hamburg and who have already completed their studies. At the end of the grant year, all the recipients are presented in an exhibition by the Department of Culture and Media. 



Now for the first time the recipients from two years will be featured in a single exhibition in the Falckenberg Collection at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg. On two floors, the presentation of recipients from 2016 and 2017 will offer an unparalleled overview of the continual development of artistic production in the city.

The Hamburg Grants for Visual Art are among the longest-existing funding initiatives for young artists in Hamburg. Since the beginning of the program in 1981, it has helped some 370 artists establish their careers. 

Numerous former grant recipients have gone on to make a name for themselves in Germany and internationally, including Stephan Balkenhol, Andreas Slominski, Mariella Mosler, Jeanne Faust, Christoph Schäfer, Thorsten Brinkmann, Aurelia Mihai, and Boran Burchardt, among others.
